“May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, ‘God is great!’” Psalm 70:4
How can we “rejoice” in overwhelming struggle? How can someone “be glad” in suffering? As the suffocating waters of pain, despair and sorrow only seem to rise around us, how can we continue to say, “God is great!”?
We must seek God. Pursuing any other goal or prize is like beating the air. It is a useless flailing that leaves us empty and exhausted. We must seek Christ, for He alone is treasure; simply knowing Him, our grand pursuit.
Our spirits become lackadaisical as we run through the meaningless motions of religious routines.
Warren Mainard
We must love our salvation. When we abandon our “first love,” our souls become lukewarm, stagnant and stale. Life loses its flavor, like salt that has lost its saltiness. Our spirits become lackadaisical as we run through the meaningless motions of religious routines. We must choose daily to refocus our attention on the good news of what God has done to save us from eternal destruction, redeeming us and adopting us into His forever family. When we rekindle the love and energy that emanated through us at the moment when the message of the cross became our salvation, the praise will well up in us once again.
Rejoice always. E V E R M O R E ! God is great!
